Discover the enchanting Saxon Vogtland

The Saxon Vogtland is a hidden gem in Germany, rich in nature, culture, and history. Start your journey of discovery in Plauen, world-famous for its delicate Plauen lace, which you can admire at the Plauen Museum. But there is much more to explore: visit the historic Mühltroff Castle, the impressive town hall in Pausa, or discover the scenic landscapes of the Vogtländische Schweiz. For nature lovers, the Talsperre Pöhl reservoir is a paradise, ideal for water sports, hiking, and cycling.

Upper Vogtland – music and relaxation

In the Upper Vogtland lies Markneukirchen, a town with a 350-year tradition of musical instrument making. Not far away, you will find the spa towns of Bad Elster and Bad Brambach, known for their healing springs and thermal baths. Winter sports enthusiasts will love Klingenthal, home to the Vogtland Arena, and Schöneck, which offers outdoor activities all year round. You can also visit the music and winter sports museum, the animal park, or enjoy the summer toboggan run in Mühlleithen.

Historic towns and impressive bridges

In the northern Vogtland, you will find charming towns such as Reichenbach, Lengenfeld, Neumark, and Netzschkau. One of the region's highlights is the impressive Göltzschtal Bridge, the largest brick-built bridge in the world. Together with the Elstertal Bridge, it is one of the iconic landmarks of the area. Reichenbach is also home to the former imperial court.

Saxony – a region full of variety

Saxony, one of Germany's 16 federal states, borders Bavaria, Thuringia, Saxony-Anhalt, Brandenburg, as well as Poland and the Czech Republic. Thanks to excellent motorway, rail, and airport connections, the region is easy to reach. The Vogtland is located in the mountainous south of Saxony, close to the Fichtelberg at 1,215 metres and Oberwiesenthal, Germany's highest town.

Whether you love culture, nature, or relaxation, Saxony has it all: historic towns, castles, palaces, traditional crafts, vineyards, and even nostalgic steam trains that take you through beautiful landscapes. With the Schlösserland Card, you can also visit almost 50 castles and palaces over a period of 10 days.

Outdoor activities and cycling routes

For active travellers, Saxony offers countless hiking, cycling, and motorbike routes, ranging from relaxed river tours along the Elbe, Mulde, Neisse, and Spree to challenging long-distance trails through hills and forests. For the perfect tailor-made route, short or long, you can always ask us for advice.

Climate and best time to visit

Thanks to its combination of maritime and continental climate, Saxony is an attractive destination in every season. From April to October, it is ideal for outdoor activities, while winter is perfect for skiing and other winter sports, especially in the Ore Mountains and the Vogtland.
